Around 25,000 households in south-east Queensland were left lacking electricity on Monday morning after intense storm systems swept through the state, bringing powerful gusts reaching over 100 km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Extensive Impact

Locals observed large ice chunks as large as 7cm in certain regions. Meteorological experts verified that different parts across the state had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were working to restore electricity service throughout the affected regions, with dozens of response units activated to manage the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Storm Challenges

Simultaneously, around one thousand households in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations received over five hundred requests for assistance across the state, mostly for building damage but also for fallen timber and inundation.

During the peak on the previous day, over 28k electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Damp conditions were expected to linger along large portions of the state's eastern regions this next several days as a weather pattern continued to draw in moisture against the coast.

The following day was forecast to be the most rainy day, with continued storm activity predicted across different parts of both states.
